The Joyful Play Project
is a resource dedicated to a simple but powerful idea: that some of the best moments of childhood are found in classic games, outdoor adventures, and creative free play.
We share practical, inspiring ideas for hands-on activities that spark joy, curiosity, and playful moments together.

joy. play. fun.
A pile of sticks becoming a fort.
A game invented on the spot that somehow lasts all afternoon.
Bare feet in the grass.
A trail that turns into an expedition.
The kinds of moments where imagination takes the lead and time stretches a little.
Here you will find simple ideas for classic games, outdoor exploration, creative play, and hands on discovery. We do the planning so you do not have to. The activities are intentionally low prep and use materials you likely already have on hand, so they are easy to jump into without a special trip to the craft store.
And in the middle of all that play, something wonderful happens. These moments naturally support creativity, problem solving, movement, and social connection. Most importantly, they make space for the joy, curiosity, and imagination that make childhood feel magical.
Creator of the Joyful Play Project
Meet Bethany
I’m the founder of The Joyful Play Project and a mother of four, living in the joyful chaos of kids big and small. I’ve spent years working with children in tutoring, gymnastics coaching, and youth programs, always drawn to the mix of learning, movement, and play.
The idea for this project started in my own childhood, inspired by my mom’s summer programs full of games, exploration, and imaginative adventures. Years later, in the middle of everyday parenting, I realized I had forgotten something important. I needed to stop and just play.
The Joyful Play Project is where I share simple, low-prep ideas to spark imagination, movement, and creativity, creating playful moments that stick with kids long after the day is done.
